There were ten members of the family on the premises at the time, and they all escaped Into a mighbour's by the back door unmor lested. When the burglars had left they returned to the house and discovered that a very large amount of property had been stolen. including $200 in silver, the burglars had carried away property valued at between 6,000 and 7,000 taele. A report of the robbery was made to the Heongshan Magistrate. In consequence of information received, she came to Hongkong to see her relation, Mr Wat Akwong, of tlie Chartered Mercantile Bank. She p-xt went to the Police Station, where she was shewn a number of articles, some of which she identified as the property stolen from her house. She then detailed the different artloles ake could identify from these pro- duced in Court by the pawnbrokers. She did not see any of the burglars.
Tong Fook, accountant at the Sun Hang pawnshop, Jervois Street, proved that on the 25th May last, the prisoner rawned with the shop a gold bangle for $60, and three pieces of clothing for $8.30 On the 28th ba pawned a jade and pearl hair-pin for $20, also three pearls for $23. The 2nd Prisoner said when the Sergeant passed, I was there, I then came up to where the 1st prisoner was, and found he was in the company of another man named Achiney,
WitceasWhen I touched the 1st pri- soner, he had a dark coat on. I did not notice the dog.
1st Prisoner observed: I had no coat on at the time.
David Toomby, Police Sergeant No. 80, was examined: I found the body lying on the ground in Gage Street. I picked up a black hat lying about 4 yards from where he was lying. This was after the body was removed. I then wont to Beltrao's house at about 2 a.m. I saw the prisoners there, The Ist prisoner had no jacket. (Witness thon deposed to how he came to get the concertina from the brothel. The prisonera were arrested because they spoke Spanish and French and lived in the same house na the deceased.) The 2nd prisoner looked fidgetty when he went to Beltrao's.
The Sergeant, at the end of his evidence said he had one thing to bring to the notios of the Court, that there were several cross streets which had no light from one end to the other, such as Aber deen Stroot, West Street, &o.
The Coroner said this was beside the subject of the present enquiry. It was Police matter, and if he thought it right, he might make a report to the Superinten- dent of Police.
John A. Holmes, the boarding house runner, was recalled to identify the bat found. He believed it belonged to the deceased.
John Cole, a soaman, was called and proved that the hat found belonged to the deceased.

To the Editor of the "CHINA MAIL."
It seems that the question of striking a coin at the Mint to be a current mediums in Hongkong, which was discussed at the last meeting of your Chamber of Commerce, has already been taken into consideration by the Government here, I suppose on the basts of the representations which were made when the question of introducing the Japanese yen and the American trade dollar was discussed some two years ago. What views the Government is likely to take is not yet known, but the matter was reported upon, I believe, favourably when it was considered before. I do not know quite why the Hongkong Chamber have sent it forward as a new question..
