NEVER GIVE UP. Never give up! It is wiser and better

Always to hope than once to despair; Fling off the load of Doubt's cankering fetter. And break the dark spell of tyrannical care. Never give up or the burden may sink you} Providence wisely bas mingled the cup; And in all troubles or trials, bethink you

The watchword of life must be "Nevergiveup!" Naver give up! There are chances and changes,

Helping the hopeful a hundred to one; And through the chaos High Wisdom arranges

Ever success, if you'll ever hope on, Never give up! for the wisest in boldest,

Knowing that Providenso mingles the cap And of all maxims, the best and the oldest

Is the true watchword of “1 Never give up!" Never give upt Though the grape-shot may tatile,

Or the dark thunder-cloud over you burst Stand Ike a rock, and the storm or the battls

Little shall harm you, though doing their worst, Never give up! If adversity pressos,

Providence wisely has mingled the cur And the best sounsel in all your distresses

Berious defects also show themselves in the organisation of the army. The artil ory is in want both of ammunition and horses. There are not sough strong draught animals to be found to drag the guts. The Post Office is not, by law, responsible for any loss or inconvenience which may arise from the non-delivery, mis-sending, or mis-delivery of any letter, book, or other postal packet (even if the packet be re- for any injury which a packet may sustain gistered); nor is the Post Offlos responsible

To gustd against such injury all postal during its transmission.dý ples of packets which are likely to suffer from stamping or from great pressure should be placed in strong covers; and even with tinte precaution no fragile article should be sent through the Post. It should be remembered that every packet has to be handled several times; that it is exposed to considerable pressure and friction in the mail bag; and that, whenever the bag has in the course of ita transmission to be transferred by means of the railway apparatus, the risk of injury is much increased.

No information can be given respecting letters which pass through a Post Office except to the persons to whom they are addressed; and in no other way is official information of a private character allowed to be made pablle. A Postmaster may, however, give an address if he has no reason.. to believe that the person whose address it le would disapprove of his doing so.

Postmasters are not allowed to return any letter or other packet to the writer or sender, or to any one else, or to delay forwarding It to its destination according to the address, even though a request to such effect be

written thereon.

Postmasters are not bound to give change, nor are they authorised to demand change; and when money is paid at Post Office, whether as change or otherwise, no question as to its right amount, goodness, or weight can be entertained after it has been removed from the counter.

Postmasters are not bound to weigh any lettera or other packets for the public, but they may do so if their duty be not thereby impeded. RE

The practice of sealing letters passing to and from the East and West Indies, and other countries with hot allmates, with wax (except such as is specially prepared), is attended with much inconvenience, and frequently with serious injury not only to the letters so sealed but to the other letters in the mail, from the melting of the wax and adhesion of the letters to each other. The public are therefore recommended, in all such cases, to use either trafers or gum, and to advise their correspondents in the coun- tries referred to, to do the same.

The registration of a packet makes its transmission much more nesure, inasmuch tered packet can be traced through its whole Be, under ordinary circumstances, a regla course and thus the loss of a registered packet is a very rate occurrenes.
