THROWING STONES.
Ng As, a coolie, was brought up for throwing stones into the Empire Tavern. Mr Humby, the proprietor of the house, proved that last evening some stones were thrown into the house through the windows. Captain Ellis recommends a cabin being provided for the accommodation of pilots at the Sultan Shoal, and estimates the cost at $1,000.
A melancholy accident happened on the Norwegian barque Poscidos, of Stavaazer, on her voyage to this. On the 12th of January, the Captain went down to, the lazarette to examine the ship's stores, and whilst guaging or about to gitage a cask of petroleum, be imprudently struck a match. The petroleum instantly ignited and an ex- plosion took place, throwing the Captain a short distance and burning him very se- verely. Some old sails took fire, but the flames were promptly extinguished. The Captain, however, was so severely burat that he died the next day, in spite of all the care that was bestowed upon him.
