THE question "Who is to succeed Capt. Superintendent Déune during his absence on sick leave" ls, during the last few days, attracted some attention, and as the control of the Police Force is a mat- ter which seriously concerns every indi vidual in the Colony, it is wall that it should be thoroughly ventilated. We are somewhat surprised to learn, that the official whose career offers the best hope of his efficiency if placed in sach posi tion is likely to be passed over in favour of an officer whose claims, despite his zeal and present appointment, are far inferior.
