recognition. Yet ng inconsiderable work has been done during the past year. Aid has been given to the expedition nominated to explore and report upon the course of the Yellow River, which has resulted the interesting paper by MrN. Elias, published in the transactions. The foundation of the most valuablə Public Library in the East has been laid by the judicious purchase of Mr Wylie's anique collection of works upon Chim and the far East. And a commencement has been made towards republishing the valuable papers of the Chiness Repository, Mr Forbes, having already completed a preliminary classification of its papers, and some idea having heen arrived at as to the probable bulk (but we regret to say not as to the cast) of the reprint. It is fur thermore gratifying to find that a piece of land has been granted by H. M, Govern went to the Society at a nominal rent whereon to build a Library, Museum, and Lecture.
