But this though bunkum and amusing enough, is nothing to the next item. According to "information received," a certain Italian adventurer named Cesar Moreno, believes he has discovered as island of great richness and vast extent soinewhere on the coast of China. On returning to Europe he offered it to the Italian Government, to Prassia; and to the Emperor of the French, but that no one would have it, so he betook himself to the United States, and writes from New York that the Government of that country is disposed to come to terms with him. He admits that, disgusted by the refusala he had mat with, he went to Americs with the intention of raising a band of fillibusters to take possession of the said island, but before doing: so it occurred to him there could be no harm in calling on Mr Seward, who received him well, considered the affair, and seems likely to conclude it. Moreno suys that he expects soon to start to take poss son of the island in the name of the great republic."

We are naturally curious as to the precise location of this island. Is it Hongkong or has Formosa been re-dis covered by this gifted explorer. At least we trust that Mr Secretary Seward: will let us know where the new acquisi tion lies before concluding all arrange
