HE DONGKONG FIKE INSURANCE COM PANY, which aspires by effluxion of time in a few months, having proved a highly succonsin undertaking, It has been determined by a large number of its share- holders to form a permanent Company, under the same mangement and with increased Capital,
It is proposed to register the Company under the Limited Liability Ordinance, and the amount of the Capital having bean fixed at Two Millions of Dollars, it is eon- sidered that Insurers will be amply scoured thereby, while at the same time each share. holder will know the extent of his individual liability. The capital proposed to be called np amounts to a large sum, and provision will be made for, the creation of an simple Reserve Fund, which will, it is expected,
in a very short time accumulate to an amount practically to give the fullest secu rity both to Insurers and luured, irrespec- tive of the unpaid

THE DRESS NOTIFICATION. We have already noted the opposition with which the North China journals have received the notification issued by Sir Rutherford Alcock respecting the dress of Chinese-ilescended British sub- jects, and we now tind a paragraph ex pressing similar sentiments in the Straits is Times. Our Singapore contemporary has certainly a much stronger justifica tion for expressing an adverse opinion than have residents at the ports inasmuch while the carrying out of the notification may be attended with advantage, to Bri tish interests in China, it may possibly. affect the interests of the Chinese 'com.
