THE CITY HALL.
As the City Hall approaches completion so does a reasonable anxiety to know in what manner its accommolation is to bo appropriated increase. Sir Richard MacDonnell has evinced too great in interest in the more ornamental brandlies. of public improvement to allow of our believing that he will prove indifferent to the modest claims which science and
literature may most justly put forward to some slight recognition at his hands. We say at his hands because it neede
only his encourigoment to start a museum and library on a hopeful basis. If the
trustees of the Building are, as we have been informed, willing to grant accom- modation, there is but little obstaule to
the idea being carried out. The whole and sole expense would be the salary of
a competent person who, in the infancy of such institutions, might easily combine- the functions of rariau and ourator, leaving future' arrangements dependent upon the progress made by each depart ment respectively. Wa are, we believe, warranted in saying that were invita- tions to the public, rot of Hongkong oly

It is probable that the Morrison and Victoria library trustees might be induc ed to place the volumes they now possess at the disposal of the City Hall Commit tee; while the various printing offices wonid scarcely be backward in sending a copy of each publication they issueil to represent the division appropriated to colonial literature.
