TO CORRESPONDENTS. Our columns are open to all who wish to address the public nu legitimate grounds, but we do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions of our corresponder

Of course if this be the current feeling at the Treaty ports we can do nothing but congratulate their residents upon the admirable temper which they display and, it is just possible, hint a souserhat unquakerlike contempt, for the extent to which they carry their forgiving pria- ciples. But we may be of some use i Hongkong, and venture to throw out & few hints for those of our readers who. are desirous of evincing in a still mere unmistakable manner, their appreciation of the rod which strikes, or the foot which kicks them. The Chairman of the Cham

Both of these motions would doubtless be adopted, and nothing would then remain but to draw up a memorial expressive of the regret felt by the mem hears that they should have quite uncon sciously ventured to forward resolutions sa diametrically opposed to the Minis ter's opinions, as those contained in their THE CHINA MAIL. last memorial..
