(From oner Overland Edition.)

HONGKONG, 31ST OCTOBER.

Our last summary was dated 11th in- atant, since which date the Orissa with the London Mails of 10th September, and the Messageries Imperiales steamer Alphee with the French Mails of 17th ultimo, arrived in our harbour, the latter bringing telegrams extending to the 6th instant.

SILYER -Our supplies of this bullion have been almost entirely from Shanghse and the Coast during the fortnight, amount. ing to $850,000. The total sent away by the Calcutta Steamers and the last Bombay Mail, but not including the present oppor- tunity, is $670,000,

DOLLAR CURRENCY-Some shipments of coin to Calcutta are still taking place, thus further diminishing the short supply which we have here.

The formal assay by the Chinese authori. ties of the Dollar from the Hongkong Mint has resulted in their report that Tls. 100 Haiquan Duty Syces are equal to Tis. 1 of the Hongkong Dollars. It is probable that an elict will be issued authorising their acceptance in payment of duties at this rate. A similar assay is about to be made at the Mint here, of the Haiquan Sycee. great scarcity of money amongst our Chi-tagona.

The amount of imports sold during past fortnight is very small, several auction sales of sea-damaged piece goods have been huid, and the prices realized at suns have in all instances been exceedingly low.

Haw Corror Large arrivals from India had the effect

fect of causing a decline i of about $la 2 per picul, notwithstanding that a fair inquiry exists both for comanimption and re-export. The total sales during the fort night comprise about 15,000 bales.

COTTON YARN

For the smaller numbers

a light inquiry prevailed but prices under the pressure of heavy stocks have further given way. The higher counts have been totally neglected.
