FUELS

Imports totalled $14.0 millions as compared with $14.7 millions, and exports $2.1 millions as compared with $2.3 millions.

Charcoal imports fell from 318,000 piculs ($649,000) to 250,000 piculs ($531,000), there being decreased supplies from British North Borneo, South China and French Indo-China.

Imports of Bituminous Coal increased from 723,000 tons to 839,000 tons but prices fell from $11.2 millions to $10.9 millions. Imports from India totalled 140,000 tons as compared. with 192,000 tons; South Africa 26,000 tons as compared with 32,000 tons; North China 193,000 tons as compared with 172,000 tons; Japan 475,000 tons as compared with 318,000 tons and the Netherlands East Indies 4,000 tons as compared with 8,000 tons,

HARDWARE

Imports totalled $4.0 millions as compared with $5.2 millions, and exports $2.4 millions as compared with $2.8 millions.

LIQUORS (INTOXICATING)

Imports totalled $3.8 millions as compared with $3.7 millions, and exports $933,000 as compared with $1.0 millions.

Imports of Malt Liquors increased slightly in quantity from 380,439 gallons to 381,871 gallons, but declined in value from $1.2 millions to $1.0 million. Imports from the United Kingdom increased from 220,000 gallons to 235,000 gallons; North China from 5,000 gallons to 8,000 gallons; and Japan from 73,000 gallons to 86,000 gallons; the German figure falling from 54,000 gallons to 37,000 gallons.

Imports of Spirits (Brandy, Gin, Rum, Whiskey), increased from 76,000 gallons ($1.3 millions) to 102,000 gallons ($1.6 millions), the British share increasing from 44,000 gallons ($860,000) to 63,000 gallons ($1.1 million).

MACHINERY & ENGINES

Imports totalled $5.6 millions as compared with 6.1 millions, and exports $1.9 millions as compared with $1.6 millions

MANURES

Imports totalled $9.9 millions as compared with $11.1 millions, and exports $9.3 millions as compared with $11.0 millions

Sulphate of Ammonia imports declined slightly from 1 4 million piculs ($10.7 millions) to 1.3 million piculs ($9.5 millions), the British share advancing from 467,000 piculs to 656,000 piculs, and the German share falling from 705,000 piculs to 522,000 piculs. Exports to China fell from 1.2 million piculs to 1.0 million piculs.

METALS

Imports totalled $38.1 millions as compared with $38.5 millions, and exports $33.6 millions as compared with $30.2 millions.

Consequent on a slump in the building trade Iron and Steel Bar imports fell from 1.4 million piculs ($6.2 millions) to 1.1 million piculs (85.0 millions): the British share increased from 35,000 piculs to 40,000 piculs while the Belgian share fell from 1.1 million piculs to 1.0 million piculs. Imports from France declined from 140,000 piculs to 26,000 piculs and Germany from 72,000 piculs to 14,000 piculs. Exports decreased from 894,000 piculs ($4.3 millions) to 777,000 piculs ($3.9 millions), South China taking 598,000 piculs as compared with 707.000 piculs.
