REMARKS.

(4) Mr. R. Gutierrez acted as Supt. of Mails from 28th March to 31st December and drew half pay of Supt. of Mails and full pay a 2nd Grade Clerk from 28th June to 31st December. (5) Temporarily transferred to Shanghai. Mr. E. S. F. Gomes acted as and drew Sea and Hotel Allowances of 2nd Grade Marina Officer from 4th July to 31st December,

(6) Mr. A. F. Castilho acted as and drew Sea and Hotel Allow- ances of 3rd Grade Marine Officer from 1st May to 23rd December.

(7) Allowance for extra work on the arrival of an English or French Mail from Europe and a Canadian or United States Mail on a Sunday, on the following seale:— Salary $1,200 and upwards, $3 per Mail; 8000 and under

$1,200, 82 per Mail; 8480 and under 3600, $1 per Mail. The allowance is doubled is the case of an English or French

Mail arriving on a Sunday or holiday.
