Ventilation is as good as pos- sible in a ship, and the cubic space allowed to each patient is liberal. On emergency over 110 could be accommodated, giving each 600 feet on apper deck and 900 on lower deck. Daring the summer months ventilation of the lower deck is not good owing to winda being light or absent.
This, of course, does not include the large air-space above the private warts and dispensary, passages, &c.
† Including sliding shutters above private wards,
In addition to all there is an open space of 4 luches between the wide and roof of ship all round.
All the excreta, ke, pass straight into the sea so that only sweel water can ever collect in the bilges, which are ventilated by 2 up and 2 down shafts each 3 ft. 9 in. in circumference.
