The Chinese inhabitants contribute, by a voluntary assessment among themselves, to the pay of District Watchmen. They contributed for the year 1905 $23,324.94.
The Governor appoints to the office of Watchmen such fit persons as he may consider to be sufficiently recommended by the inhabitants of any District, under the provisions of Ordinance 3 of 1888.
Inscribed Stock at 3% interest. £311,799 15s. 1d. for Praya Reclamation; Central Market; Water, Drainage and Sewerage Works, &c., to be paid off on 15th April, 1943. The amount paid into the Sinking Fund with accrued interest reached £37,611 14s. 1d. on the 31st of December, 1905; and is invested by the Crown Agents for the Colonies in approved Securities.
