The Corps as it existed until 1893 consisted solely of an Artillery Corps. It was not made subject to the Army Act, and consequently was not held to be in a military sense a reliable force in the event of war.

In 1893 the force was disbanded by the Government and a new Volunteer Corps was formed under Ordinance No. 6 of 1893, which placed the Corps under the supervision of the military authorities as in England, and made it subject to the Army Act to the same extent as the Volunteer Force in Englaw!. Amentel Regulations were made by the Governor-in-Conueil on the 25th May, 1899, and uguin amended on the 6th November, 1902,
