(1) Hon. F. A. Cooper promoted and left for Ceylon on 7th May 1887.
(2) Mr. Chatham acted as Director of Public Works from 7th May to 19th October 1897. The period between the departure of Hon. F. A. Cooper and arrival of Hon. R. D. Ormsby, and during this period drew the whole of his pay together with a portion of Director of Public Works' pay and the whole of the Director of Public Works' conveyance allowance instead of his own, and from October an additional sum of $980 a month during Mr. Tooker's absence on leave.
