With the exception of debtors and first-class misde- mennants and prisoners on remand or committed for trial, all prisoners are placed on penal diet of bread (or rice) and water on two days of oach week (Saturday and Sunday) for the first six mouths of their imprison-

inent.

At other times, except when under punishment for Prison offences, the diet of each prisoner is as follows:- DIETARY FOR EUROPEAN PRISONERS.

Sour.—Each piut to contain 4 oz, meut without bone, 1 oz. onions, 1 oz. barley, 4 oz. greons, yains, sweet potatoes or taro, with pepper and salt. GRUEL-Each pint to contain. 2 oz. oatmeal, 1 oz.

molasses, and sufficient salt.

Cocoa-Ench pint to contain 4 oz. flake cocon or

nibs, l ́oz. molasses or sugar.

SUET PUDDING.-To every pound 14 oz. snot, 61⁄2 oz.

flour, 8 oz. water.

CURRY STUFF.-Chillies 33 drs., pepper 14 drs, tur- meric dr., coriander seed 4 dr., cummin seed

dr., and oil oz.

TEA.-Each pint to contain oz. tea, ż oz, sugar.
