29. The amount realised by the sale of Postage Stamps in 1874, was $137,722.84. Stamps of the value of $74,419.68 were sold in Hongkong, and the remainder, viz., $63,303.16, at the Post Office Agencies at the Ports in China and Japan, showing a decrease of $2,603.43 in those sold in Hongkong, and a decrease of $1,665.50 in those sold at the Ports, as compared with 1873.

31. The following Returns show that the average tine occupied in conveying the Mails from home was less in 1874 than it was in 1873, by both the English and French Packets. The shortest time in which a Mail was delivered in Hongkong from London by British Packet via Brindisi was 35 days, and the shortest time in which a Mail was delivered in Hongkong by French Packet viâ Marseilles was 38 days. As regards the Homeward Mails, one Mail sent from Hongkong by French Packet via Marseilles was delivered in London in 35 days and two in 36 days, whilst by the British Packets vià Brindisi, the quickest time occupied was 38 days on three occasions.
