37. The following Returns show that the average time occupied in conveying the Mails from Home by both the British and French Packets has been less in 1872 than in 1871, and that the shortest time during 1872, in which a Mail has been conveyed from London to Hongkong, by British Packet, was 36 days, and by French Packet 38 days, whilst the shortest time occupied in conveying a Mail from Ilongkong to London by British Packet was 38 days and by French Packet 36.
