Answers.

There is no Chaplain attached to the prison, but the Colonial Chaplain holds service once every week. The Revil. Dr. Legge, London Church Mission, also bolds service once a week and is assisted by Chinese Clergy-

men.

Roman Catholic Priests visit the prison, and holl service every week assisted by Chinese Priests. All dissenting Ministers are allowed free access to the prison nt such hours ns do not interfere with the disci- pline of the prison.

Intimation is immediately sent to any Priest or Minister who may bo required by any prisoner at any

time.

No provision is made for the education of prisoners, but all are supplied with religions and other useful books.

Remissions of sentences aro granted, as a rule, under senle which has been approved by the Secretary of State, similar to that in use in the Convict Prisons in England; also on Medical grounds, and a few under special local circumstances,
