Care has been taken on their release to remove these men as for as posible from China, and I am led to believe that they have "cither abandoned their previous modes of life, or have not found their way again to the old scene of their depredations; at all

events I am not Cognizant of more than one case of reconviction. The New Consular Gaol in Shanghai will, I apprchent be often this year for the reception of all prisoners sentenced at Freaty Ports, which will considerably lessen the number of prisoners in this Colony.
