QUESTIONS.
13. Is there a Chapel in the Prison, or suitable Apartment for the perform- ance of Religious Services? How are the Prisoners separated therein !
14. What duties are performed by the Chaplain? What provision is made for the Instruction of the Prisoners; and are they supplied with Bibles and other suitable Books?
ANSWERS.
There is no chapel, but Religions services aro performed in the Central Transept which is well adapted to the purpose. Misdemeanants lake their places in the Hall. Felons in the Gallery.
There is no chaplain, attached to the badl Department, but the botonid Chaplain visits the Gaol frequently and performs Divine Service once a week, on Thimodayo.

19. Reasons for Punishments, by Whip- ping, Irons, Solitary Confinement, or otherwise?
20. Is there any Insane person in con- finement? State his or her Name and Age, and for what offence committed? How long has he or she been in con- finement; and is such Person sepa- rated from the other Prisoners?
ANSWERS.
Whipping is inflicted by sentence of the chief Justice and Police Magistrates for robbery with Wiolence re and for the following Prison offenses: Fighting, Stealing, Smoking Having prohibited articles in possession, attempting to escape, and malingering.
There is
no insane Strson in the bark.
15. Are Dissenting Ministers allowed to have access to the Prisoners; and if so, at what times, and under what restrictions?
16. What Duties are performed by the Surgeon? Are separate Buildings or Apartments provided for the Sick?
17. What Diseases have been most pre- valent during the Year (in reference
to Columns 10 and 11, Return No. 1.)!
18. Reasons for Non-employment of Prisoners (in reference to Column 8)?
Roman Catholic Clergy and Protestant Dissenting Ministers are freely allowed access to the Brisoners with the praise that they do not interfers with the boul discipline. A Roman Catholic Priest- invariably attends every Sunday on his Co-religionists.
The Colonial Surgeon visits the book every morning, and offener if required. There is a Hospital in the baol which Contains separate apartments.
Ulcers-Remittent Fever and Dysentery.
All prisoners are
· employed exceff those cortified sick by the Doctor.
21. Are any, and what, Fees demanded of Debtors, or of any other Prisoners, either at their Admission to, or Dis- charge from the Gaol?
