STAMP OFFICE, Hongroso,

5th January, 1869.

SIB,

I do myself the honor to inclose, for the information of His Excellency SIR Richard GraveS MACDONNELL, a Return shewing the Revenue of this Department under each item liable to duty for the month of December last, and also s Statement of the Revenue under "The Stamp Ordinance, 1866," for the half-year from 1st January to 30th June, 1868, and under "The Stamp (Amendment) Ordinance, 1868," for the half-year from 1st July to 31st December, 1868, from which it will be observed that the new Ordinance has yielded an increase of $969.68 during the six months of its operation over the Revenue for six months of the operation of the old Ordinance, and that the total Revenue received during the

year 1868, amounts to $101,894.20.

The local Expenditure of the Department for the year 1868, amounts to $1,018.61, and a sum of £55.14.11 has been paid through the Auditor General's Office for supplies received from the Crown Agents, so that the net amount the Stamp Department has produced during the year 1868, may be put down as $97,608.01; there are, however, outstanding claims due to the Crown Agents for plates, &c., for new Adhesive Stamps amounting to about $1,293.84.

!

The Honorable

J. Gardiner Austin,

Colonial Secretary.

Hongkong.

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient Servant,

F. W. MITCHELL, Collector of Stamp Recense.
