No Squatting, in the sense in which it is understood in most other colonies, is adopted here, as the Land is unavailable for pasturage, and except in very few places, for agriculture.
Parties having possession of Lands previous to the Treaty were allowed to retain them on payment of certain assessed Rentals now collected by the Registrar General; and in cases where such Lands or Houses are not leased, the parties were considered as Tenants at Will.
Five Sales have been held during the year for Building purposes at Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen, the Original House holders taking their Lots, at the average price of Public Auction.
