No Squatting, in the sense in which it is understood in other Colonies, is adopted here, as the Land is unavailable for pasturage, and except in very few places, for agriculture.
Parties having possession of Lands or houses previous to the Treaty were allowed to retain them on payment of certain assessed Rentals, now collected by the Registrar General; and in cases where such Lands are not Leased, the parties are considered as Tenants at will.
At the Village of Low. Kewan two Sales of Lots for Building purposes have been held during the year and arrangements have been made for a similar sale at Aberdeen at an early date.
