That for the better protection of the Roads and more particularly the Foot-paths of the Streets and Roads, each house or Verandah constructed should be with dripping eaves supplied with eaves guttering and down spouts to convey the rain water either into a Drain or Tank or into the side channel, or if constructed with close gutters with down spouts from such gutters into a drain, tank or wide channel.
That each fire place be provided with a brick trimmer arch under the hearth stone and that no girder or joist be laid within eighteen inches of any flue.
That no flue be less than 14 inches by 9 inches.
That the scantlings of all timber Bressumers, girders and joists of floors, all the beams, principal rafters and purlins of roofs be submitted for approval to the Surveyor General at the same time that the plans are deposited.
That when houses are built in a row contiguously, the division on party walls should be carried up through the Roof and terminated as parapets 18 inches above the back of the tiles, slates or quarries. The observance of this last regulation would tend to confine a fire to the house in which it might break out.
The thickness of the walls specified in the Ordinance is excessive for small building and not sufficient for large ones; Building should be classified into first, second and third rates and the thicknesses of the walls insisted...
