I'mmest und refer to my Report wherein Ionfined for sir of Ancashireel, lout year,

I myself abiefly to Sanitary namely, Severage, Drainage, Centication, and Cleanliness,

and to which infurtant and exventionl Tofries but slight attention has been hout,

except the building of a few Dustbing, receptordles for all kinds of filth, and being

and remain the Hot-beds of Malaria.

I must also, I am sorry to say, refer to the latter Requisites of my Report for 1864,

that the Sanitary Measures Nos 1, 2, 3, and 4 have not been attended to, and a year

having elapsed, I fear they never will be.

In the month of February the Chinese New Year took place, and during this period

an extensive fire broke out in Wellington and Graham Streets, and also very nearly

demolishing the Central Police Station. I should have thought that after the

destruction which occurred, that some measures would have been taken to prevent a

recurrence, if possible. Wood is kept by the Carpenters in the ruined houses, – And

even great quantities of wood is kept in the top of dwellings & immediately adjacent

to the Central Police Station. The System of Storing wood in houses should not be

allowed.
