"The only gold Coins legally current are those of the United Kingdom, and the rest India Company's Gold Mohur, coined lince the 10t Leptember 1835, balue £1.9.2 Sterling. This latters, however, is seldom of ever Inst with in the Colony.

The silver coins, besides chore of the Winted Kingdom, are the Dollars of Spain, Mexico, and the South American states, rach Equivalent to 4/ Sterling. The East India Company's Rukees, Half and quarter Rupees, at 8/10,- -/11, and of respectively. -

The Dollar of Spain is rarely, if rver met with perfed Coin, but always chopped, or broken, and passes by weight-

Feels being Equivalent to $1000. In this state the spanich Dollar is not a legal tender, but being the standard by which all Commercial transactions with the Chinese are

regulated at the Consular Ports, it is also the principal Currency of

the Island..

The lopper loins are those of the United Kingdom and the Copper lack of China, 24 of which

China, 24 of which are usual to one penny sterling.-
