It will be observed that in over 81 per centum of the post-mortem examinations carried out, the bodies were mainly unclaimed or abandoned.

24. It is necessary to bear this fact in mind when determining the value to be attached to statistics of the actual cause of death and not to attribute too much importance to the fact, that, on paper at any rate, the proportion of deaths in which the causes are not certified is small.
