There were also three special passenger trains of Canton-Hankow Railway stock which came right through to Kowloon,

as under:

(i). H.M.S. "Capetown" II arrived at Kowloon on October 9th.

(ii). H.B.M. Minister and Embassy Staff arrived at Kowloon on December 5th.

(iii). International Refugees arrived at Kowloon on December 25th.

The 29 Local Specials were divided into 26 Military, 2 Picnic, and 1 for a Government party.

In addition to the above, 359 through goods specials were run, consisting of 191 up and 168 down trains.

46. Accidents, both operating and personal on the British Section, are detailed below:--

Derailments 4 Minor collisions 5 Train divided 1 Trespassers killed by trains Passengers fell off train and injured 3 Total 19

47. The Kowloon Station Yard has undergone several changes owing to the need for goods accommodation sidings and improved loading facilities. Extensions have been made to the sidings on the
praya wall, and two lines emerge on to the empty carriage road just behind Kowloon Station Signal Box.

48. The acquisition in November of a 5-ton, 4'8" gauge, steam crane, capable of moving under its own power, has proved of great value and has speeded up the loading of cargo.

4.-General.

49. The arrival of 22 Wagons-Lits coaches in the Colony in September, which required storage space, caused the Administration considerable embarrassment, as short of preparing sidings for their accommodation they only added to the congestion which obtained at that time. This course was finally adopted, but until the sidings were ready, the stock had to be taken out in ones and twos and found space at country stations. Before this could be done, however, a special coupler had to be fitted to the locomotive to enable the carriages to be hauled, since they were not supplied with the standard coupling for China.
