105. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages:- Repairs of varying magnitude were carried out to practically all Government buildings. An outfall of a sewer at Tsun Wan was repaired. Repairs were made good to various roads. A length of 300 feet of 6" main which was washed away near the railway crossing at Taipo was relaid.

Telephone poles and lines and submarine cables were repaired. Replacements and repairs were carried out where required to electric light fittings and wiring at various buildings.

Extensive repairs were carried out to Castle Peak, Cheung Chau and Tsun Wan Piers and to the seawall at Rennies Mill. A contract was awarded to Messrs. Sang Lee and Company for reconstructing the beacon light at Cheung Chau which work was commenced on the 22nd December.

106. Maintenance of Village Supplies: (a) Tsun Wan:- The total quantity of water supplied was 23.34 million gallons as compared with 21.23 million gallons for last year. This was equivalent to an average daily consumption of 64,000 gallons. Details are given in Table X.

There were twelve public stand pipes and eleven fire hydrants in use at the close of the year,

(b) Fanling:- The total quantity of water supplied was 12.32 million gallons compared with 12.36 million gallons last year, equivalent to an average consumption of 34,000 gallons per day. Details are given in Table X.

There were two fire hydrants in use at the close of the year.

(c) Taipo:- The total quantity of water supplied was 40.77 million gallons as compared with 33.64 million gallons last year, equivalent to an average consumption of 112,000 gallons per day. Details are given in Table X.

There were fifteen public stand pipes and twenty-four fire hydrants in use at the close of the year.

(d) Un Long:- The total quantity of water supplied was 14.86 million gallons as compared with 12.35 million gallons last year, equivalent to an average consumption of 41,000 gallons per day. Details are given in Table X.

There were six public stand pipes and twelve fire hydrants in use at the close of the year.
