74. Clinics are established in connection with the treatment of Government school children at Ellis Kadoorie and Yaumati Schools and the Violet Peel Health Centre, where the Medical Officers have their headquarters. There are also special clinics for visual disorders, and for ear, nose and throat.
75. The Medical Officers undertake also visits to private vernacular schools with a view to ascertaining and reporting upon the hygienic fitness of the premises for school purposes.
76. Detailed reports of the work done by the Medical Officers during the year will be found in the Medical Department Annual Report.
77. It is gratifying to be able to record that 11 of the Grant-in-aid schools have, at their own charges, established medical inspectional services on the lines of, if not entirely co-extensive with, the system in use in the Government schools.
78. During the course of the year the Vernacular Inspectorate methodically pursued the somewhat technical task of supervising the installation of latrines in the schools falling under their charge according to the requirements of the medical authorities; and by the year's end, with the exception of some 30 schools, the work had been completed.
79. The scheme for introducing Physical Training throughout the Government and Grant-in-aid schools proceeded according to programme with the result that it is now possible to claim that every boy and every girl, British, Indian or Chinese, in all the urban schools, provided or aided, is receiving one hour's training a week as a part of the curriculum.
80. Apart from private instructors employed by some of the Grant-in-aid schools, the staff consists of 10 Chinese male and 2 Chinese female instructors locally trained, under the supervision of fully qualified European Supervisors.
81. In the Vernacular Schools the contest for the Director's banner for the best physical training display by a squad of 45 inaugurated last year was repeated in December and a keen competition resulted.
