These results compared favourably with those obtained in London and other British Cities.

The mainland supply was treated with 7.25 tons of liquid chlorine which is equivalent to an average admixture of 0.565 of a part per million.

The analyses made by the Government Analyst showed that the water was of good quality throughout the year.

At the end of the year 117 public stand pipes, 152 pedestal hydrants and 356 single underground street fire hydrants were in use.

82. Water Meters:-There were 9,509 meters in use at the close of the year as compared with 9,196 in 1935. The number of meters examined and repaired was 3,284 and no meter was tested in accordance with Regulation 9 of the Water Works Ordinance 16 of 1903.

83. Maintenance of Praya Walls and Piers :—Praya walls and piers were maintained in a satisfactory condition. The following piers were repaired:-Hung Hom Ferry, Mongkoktsui, Public Square Street and Waterloo Road. Track was repaired at Government Slipway, Yaumati.

Five hoists were maintained in good order at Jordan Road and Mongkok Ferry Piers.
