REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF
VERNACULAR SCHOOLS.
GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.
1. Vernacular Middle School.-Head Teacher, Mr. Li King Hong, B.A. The maximum enrolment was 247, and the average attendance was 228.
2. Of the four students who sat for the School Certificate Examination, three passed, one of whom obtained three distinctions. Twelve out of fifteen students in the Normal Division obtained their Teachers' Certificate. This Certificate has been recognized by some Universities in Canton and Peiping as an equivalent to that of a Higher Middle School in China.
3. Gifts of books have been received from friends of the school in another part of the world, namely:-Shanghai.
4. General Reading of English, side by side with Chinese, has been actively encouraged in order to raise the standard of English.
5. Boys play the usual school games. The Senior Volley Ball Team won many League matches, though it did not retain its position of runners-up, which it had held for a few years. Excursions into the country have been made.
6. In October, an exhibition of Chinese Painting-the work of thirteen of the present pupils-was held in the Education Office and interested a number of visitors.
7. Vernacular Normal School for Women.-Head Mistress, Miss Chan Yat Hing. The maximum enrolment was 167, and the average attendance, 160.
8. All the twenty "Final" Students passed their Examination in June, a record success. Examination results of the other classes were quite satisfactory.
9. Mr. Lo Fung Cheung retired on account of advanced age after 9 years' faithful service.
10. Tuipo Vernacular Normal School.-Head Teacher, Mr. Chan Pun Chiu. The maximum enrolment was 44, and the average attendance, 40.
11. Four out of six students passed the Final Examination.
12. The school lacks facilities for organized games; Ping Pong and walking are the only recreations taken.
