(xi) Licensed Premises.-1,343 premises were inspected by officers of the department with a view to the issue of new licences. Routine inspections of three thousand three hundred and thirty-one licensed premises were made throughout the year,

(xii) Rat Catching. Twenty-five members of the Cleansing Staff were employed during the year setting traps, bird-lime boards, and rat poison, also collecting rats from street rat-bins, private premises, etc., and taking them to the Public Mortuary for examination. 11.-WORK DONE UNDER THE ADULTERATED FOOD AND DRUGS ORDINANCE AND SECTION 4 OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH (FOOD) ORDINANCE.

(i) Samples of fresh milk were submitted for analysis under Section 10 of the Adulterated Food and Drugs Ordinance, of which 10 were found to pass the standard and 7 to be below standard.

Prosecution was successfully undertaken in 1 case where the sample failed to satisfy the legal requirements.

In addition, the following samples of Food and Drugs were taken:-

Butter 8 Camphorated Oil 3 Cheese 19 Coffee 16 Ghee 4 Tincture of Iodine 2 Lard 8 Mustard 11 Olive Oil 3 Peanut Oil 8 Pepper 10 Sweetened Condensed Milk 21 Tea 21 Tinned Cream 13 Unsweetened Evaporated Milk 14 Vinegar 19 Water 1

(ii) The following foodstuffs were seized and destroyed under Section 4 of the Public Health (Food) Ordinance:-

Fish 1 lb. and Tea 10,378 lbs.

The following foodstuffs were voluntarily surrendered and destroyed:-

Flour 67 lbs. Fruit 77 lbs. Confectionery 1,000 lbs. Meat 106 lbs. Meat extracts 125 lbs. Tinned Milk 250 lbs. Vegetables 43 lbs. Fish 2 lbs.
