46. Maintenance of Buildings:-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to one hundred and thirteen buildings. Major repairs included the following:-Government House-repairs to paths, Central Police Station-renewed garage roof, and roof to Deputy Superintendent of Police Quarters, Statue Square—cleaned Statues and painted railings, Western Market-renewed stalls in concrete, Colonial Secretary's Office-matshed roof, Victoria Gaol-repaired ceiling joists and renewed tiles, General Post Office-repaired roof over sorting hall, District Officer, South's Office-extended partition, Central Market-renewed lintels and brickwork to ventilators, Bacteriological Institute-roof supports and new supply tank, Western District Sanitary Office-renewed wood floor in concrete, No. 7 Police Station-repaired paths, stores roof, servants and lavatory blocks, Caine Road Police Quarters-repairs to concrete stairs and verandahs, Kennedy Town Crematorium-closed in area with W.I. grills, Colonial Cemetery Chapel-renewed and repaired doors, Queen's Gardens Flats-renovated servants quarters, Mounted Infantry Horse Lines-rebuilt matshed stables, Boys Remand Home-renewed floors, Tsat Tze Mui Quarters-rebuilt back verandah, Queen's Gardens No. 10-renewed ceilings, Villa Miramere-renewed garage doors, Lyeemun Signal Station-renewed mast, etc., Pokfulum Police Station-renewed roof to servants quarters, H.M.
