The greater proportion of this increase was due to the prevalence of coinage offences. Several of the samples of coins submitted for analysis were found on persons arrested in places which suggested that the source of these counterfeits was outside the Colony. In all these cases it was found that the coins were made of an alloy whose approximate composition was tin 5 parts, antimony 2 parts and copper 1 part.
