Where the excavations are in soft ground the slopes of the side walls are 2¼ to 1 and where in rock ¾ to 1. A penalty of $975.00 was imposed on the contractor for non-completion in contract time.

AIR PORT AND SEAPLANE SLIPWAY, ETC.
239. (a) Concrete Post and Barbed Wire Fence:-This work was described in paragraph 251 (a) of last year's Report. The work was satisfactorily completed on 17th January.
(b) Erection of Penfold Type Chain Link Fence (6′ 0″ high) This work was described in paragraph 252 (b) of last year's Report. The work was satisfactorily completed in February.
(c) Raising and Regrading Western Portion of Aerodrome:-This work was referred to in paragraph 253 (c) of last year's Report. The work was continued throughout the year, the material being obtained from the Victoria Home and Orphanage site. The total quantity of material deposited amounted to 66,686 cubic yards.
(d) Slipway for Civil Aviation:-This work was referred to in paragraph 254 (d) of last year's Report. A slipway, 50 feet x 380 feet along with a jetty, 20 feet x 150 feet were constructed and completed in October.
(e) Piling and Concrete Foundations for Hangar at Kai Tak Airport:-A contract for this work was let to The Vibro Piling Co. on 20th September. At the end of the year, 295 piles were driven representing 95% of the total required.
