54. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damage:- Repairs of varying magnitude, chiefly confined to roofs and joinery were carried out under this head to the following buildings:- Queen's College, Central Police Station, Quarry Bay School, Sookunpoo School, Kennedy Road Rifle Range, Colonial Cemetery, 407 The Peak, 404 The Peak, 297 The Peak, Park Road Quarters, and Tytam Tuk Police Station.

Landslips occurred in the following localities:- Belchers Street, Blue Pool Road, Colonial Cemetery, Harlech Road, Island Road, Magazine Gap Road, May Road, Repulse Bay Road, Shan Kwong Road, Shek O and Cape D'Aguilar Roads, Stanley Road, Shouson Hill Road, Tai Hang Road, and Wong-neichong Road.

Sand and boulders were removed from nullahs at Wong-neichong, Sookunpoo, and Shaukiwan; repairs were carried out to nullahs in the Anti-Malarial Districts of Taikoo, Sookunpoo, and Lyeemun; various minor repairs were effected to nullahs at Shaukiwan, Tai Hang, Wongneichong, Stone Nullah Lane, and Kennedy Road; and damaged sewers were made good at Aberdeen Valley and Repulse Bay Road.

Following the typhoon in September, repairs were carried out to the following piers:- Blake, Fenwick Street, French Street, Harbour Office, Murray, Queen's, Sai Wan Ho, and Wilmer Street, and to the pitched slope of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.

Considerable damage was caused to catchwaters during the heavy rains in June, July, and August. The main items were:

A slip occurred at Stanley Gap which carried away a portion of the Stanley Mound West Catchwater. About 240 feet of new catchwater lined with cement concrete was constructed in solid rock on a new alignment well back from the edge of the slope.

The deep embankment carrying the road alongside the outfall section of Aberdeen West Catchwater subsided badly and made the road impassable. Filling was deposited to bring it up to proper level, but settlement continued, and a length of about seventy feet of reinforced concrete decking, carried on concrete piers built up from solid ground, was laid to carry the road. The Aberdeen East Catchwater, Second Section, was completely blocked by slips and boulders for a considerable part of its length. These slips were cleared, and all slopes trimmed and made as safe as possible. Minor damage and slips occurred on several other catchwaters, and repair work was carried out as quickly as possible.
