REPORT OF THE HEAD OF THE SANITARY DEPARTMENT.
1. Senior Officers :-
DEPARTMENTAL STAFF.
Mr. G. R. Sayer acted as Head of the Sanitary Department from 1st January to 23rd March, Mr. R. A. D. Forrest from 24th March to 14th November and Mr. W. J. Carrie from 15th November to 31st December.
Mr. E. Himsworth acted as Assistant Head of the Sanitary Department from 1st January to 25th November and from 27th December to 31st December. Mr. K. Keen acted, in addition to his other duties, from 16th July to 29th August and from 26th November to 26th December.
Dr. G. W. Pope, Medical Officer of Health, went on long leave on 27th January and resumed duty on 2nd November, during which period, Dr. J. M. Gray, the Assistant Medical Officer of Health, acted from 27th January to 23rd February, from 12th March to 10th July, from 16th July to 1st November and Dr. T. W. Ware from 24th February to 11th March and from 11th July to 15th July.
Dr. K. C. Yeo served throughout the year as Assistant Medical Officer of Health.
Mr. W. J. E. Mackenzie and Mr. M. J. Reidy served throughout the year as the Colonial Veterinary Surgeon and the Assistant Colonial Veterinary Surgeon respectively.
Inspectors :-
(i) Establishment:-
Five Asiatic Inspectors are now included in the establishment. The number of Inspectors on duty on 1st January, 1st July and 31st December were 52, 53 and 59 respectively (Senior Inspectors included).
(ii) Qualifications:—
(a) Technical.
i. At an examination held locally on 19th April, 1934, eight Inspectors were recommended for the Royal Sanitary Institute Certificate as Sanitary Inspectors. With the exception of four newly joined men, every Inspector now holds this certificate.
