56. Engines Nos. 13 and 14, Hudswell Clarke Saddle-Tank six-wheel coupled shunting engines, were retired from service. These engines were built in 1906 and had new boilers fitted in 1922. They were put up for survey and have now been condemned as of no further use on this Railway.
57. Engines Nos. 1 and 2 were withdrawn from Main Line traffic and put on the shunting work in place of Nos. 13 and 14. With this change the smoke nuisance in Chatham Road and Kowloon Station area was considerably reduced.
MOTOR COACHES.
58. Motor coaches Nos. 1 and 2 were redesigned internally and fitted with lavatories.
COACHING STOCK.
59. First-class coaches:-No. 22, first-class dining car, on account of being badly damaged by white ants, had to be rebuilt.
60. Second-class coaches:-Nos. 20 and 32 were overhauled and repainted; the latter being converted into a third-class.
61. Third-class coaches:-Nos. 4 and 5 were rebuilt as second-class coaches. No. 13 was rebuilt and painted.
GOODS WAGONS.
62. The following 15-ton wagons were in the shops for rebuilding: No. 16 damaged by acid at Kowloon Station and No. 23 owing to its general condition. No. 31 underwent heavy repairs.
63. The following 30-ton wagons were in the shops for rebuilding :-Nos. 61 and 65. Four 30-ton wagons were converted for carrying live fresh fish. Heavy repairs were carried out on 30-ton wagons Nos. 74, 80 and 91.
WORKSHOPS.
64. During the year only five machines were overhauled, namely, wheel lathe, radial drilling machine, small air compressor which was also converted from gear drive to belt drive, planing machine and Churchill surface grinder. The lighting system of the Works was changed and re-wired by Public Works Department.
