During the early part of the year the Aberdeen Lower Dam was kept out of action to allow the removal of silt from the basin. The washout valve was closed on 4th August and the reservoirs rose to within 3 inches of overflow level on 1st November, when pumping was commenced. The amount of silt removed increased the capacity of the reservoir by 14.30 million gallons and it is intended to continue this work in 1934 (see para. 244 of this Report).
The supply from the mainland through the Cross Harbour Pipe was in operation for 186 days between 12th April and 5th December, during which period 396.92 million gallons were delivered, equivalent to an average daily supply of 2.13 million gallons.
The total quantity of water stored in the impounding reservoirs on 1st January amounted to 1629.45 million gallons, of which 481.95 million gallons were in the gravitation reservoirs and 1147.50 million gallons in the lower-level reservoirs requiring pumping. Storage reached a minimum on the 2nd June when the total was 466.91 million gallons, 201.67 million gallons being in the gravitation reservoirs.
