Anti-Piracy Work-Twenty-five units of Anti-Piracy Guards were supplied to the British India Steam Navigation Company, and twelve units to the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company on the Hong Kong-Singapore run. Eighteen units were supplied to the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company on the Hong Kong-Shanghai run. The China Navigation Company retained permanent guards on twelve vessels between Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Towards the end of the year the Company increased their total of units retained from fourteen to sixteen. During the annual overhaul of the Canadian Pacific vessels, the Russian guards normally employed by the Company were drafted temporarily to the Police Training School for Refresher courses.

27. During the year, seven hundred and seventy-four mendicants were dealt with by the Police Department. Of this number, six hundred and nineteen were convicted before Police Magistrates for begging and eighteen were discharged. Of the numbers sent away:
