## REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF VERNACULAR SCHOOLS.

### GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.

Vernacular Middle School.-Head Teacher, Mr. Li King Hong, B.A.

The maximum enrolment was 251, and the average attendance was 215. Of the eight students who sat for the "Special Examination" conducted by the University, two were successful. Six students in the Normal Division received their Teacher's Certificates.

2. The Senior Volley Ball Team retained for the 4th year its title of Runners-up for the Senior Championship in the Hong Kong school league. Increased interest is shown in Basket Ball and Football.

3. The health of the school has been satisfactory.

4. Vernacular Normal School for Women.-Head Mistress, Miss Chan Yat Hing. The maximum enrolment was 169 and the average attendance was 157. Eleven out of seventeen students passed the "Final Examination”. The percentage of passes for the last two years-64% approximately-has been fairly satisfactory. The girls continue to make good use of their playground at Caroline Hill, and play Basket Ball and Volley Ball. Physical training is being introduced.

5. Taipo Vernacular Normal School-Head Teacher, Mr. Chan Pun-chiu. The maximum enrolment was thirty-six and the average attendance was thirty. Only one out of four students was successful at the Final examination.

6. It may, perhaps, not be out of place to point out here that the usefulness of the school should not entirely be judged by this examination result, for while it is considered necessary to insist on a good standard for the Final Certificate, some of those who failed to reach the required standard have been allowed to teach and proved quite worthy of the training.

### GRANT SCHOOLS.

7. The maximum enrolment in the four Grant Schools was 1118, and the average attendance was 998. The Ying Wa Girls' School is still the only one of the four working for the University Examinations; two out of three students presented passed the
