WORK DONE UNDER THE FOOD AND DRUGS ORDINANCE AND SECTION 82 OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.
Samples of fresh milk were submitted for analysis under section 12 of the Food and Drugs Ordinance, of which 52 were found to pass the standard and 3 to be below standard. In one of these cases a summons was taken out but dismissed, in the remaining two cases no action was taken as the amount of adulteration was so slight as to be in all probability due to accidental contamination.
2. The following samples of Food and Drugs were taken:
Bread 27, Tea 6, Sugar 2, Butter 13, Lard 5, Honey 1 and Arrowroot 8.
Of the above, one sample of tea failed to satisfy the legal requirements.
3. Under Section 82 of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance the following foodstuffs were seized and destroyed.
Apricot Jam 2,236 lbs., Plum Jam 1,413 lbs., Blackcurrant Jam 624 lbs., Strawberry Jam 5,650 lbs., Gooseberry Jam 349 lbs., Blackberry Jam 186 lbs., Raspberry and Apple Jam 265 lbs., Flour 7 sacks and 2 bags, Dried shrimps 1 bag, Dates 1 case, Fruit 2 baskets, Tinned fish 15 cases, Canned peas 200 cases and various fruits 81 cases.
