53. Two additional machines were installed during the year; one 4-cylinder air compressor direct coupled to 52 h.p. electric motor, and one portable hydraulic wheel jack for removing wheels from the new 4-6-0 type tender locomotives.
54. One heavy emergency van body was built and fitted to a Thornycroft 45 h.p. chassis for the Police Department.
55. The motor workshops were kept busy on repairs to Government motor cars and lorries.
56. All the machines in the Workshops were overhauled and painted where necessary during the year.
# ACCOUNTS
57. The Capital Account and the Revenue Statements of Receipts and Expenditure are submitted in the same form as last year.
58. All traffic was suspended from April 21st to May the 2nd inclusive, owing to the derailment at Mile 93 and washouts to the embankment south of Shatin. On August 1st one up express train, and on August 2nd one down express train were cancelled on account of a typhoon. The Slow Through train from Canton on 14th May was cancelled by request of the Chinese Section Authorities. The claim for this latter suspension, amounting to $126.52, was not settled and therefore was not included in the Revenue Account.
59. The express trains between Kowloon and Canton were hauled by the new Tender Locomotives from May 3rd. The Locomotive Loan Account to 31st December was forwarded to the Canton Provincial Government and details of the account appear in the schedules appended.
60. The Depreciation Charges on Rolling Stock in respect of the year are in accordance with the scale laid down in the Classification of Expenditure prescribed by the Ministry of Communications, Peking, and accepted by the Chinese Government Railways under the Ministry of Railways, Nanking, and a $69,155.43 is included in the Operating Expenses, Maintenance of Equipment, under the usual Subheads; the amount at the credit of Depreciation Reserves at the close of the year being $887,024.99.
