This being the year of the Census it is interesting to note from the preliminary Census figures, that whilst the population of the Island of Hong Kong has increased in the last ten years by about 22 per cent the assessment of the Island has increased by 68.3 per cent. In Kowloon and New Kowloon the population has increased by about 113 per cent in the last ten years and the assessment by 204 per cent. If the Island of Hong Kong is taken together with Kowloon and New Kowloon the increase in population during the last ten years is about 46 per cent whilst the increase in the assessment is 87.6 per cent.
