44. All the machines in the Workshops were maintained in excellent condition.

45. The Works were kept very busy on a large number of Jobs for the Water Emergency Committee, such as:-

Ten 30-ton covered goods wagons which were converted
into water tanks for conveying water.

Many water hydrants and stands, hose connections and
various pipes, etc., were turned out.

46. Six motor vehicle bodies were built for the Sanitary Department, also two dust-van bodies and four meat-van bodies.

47. The Motor Workshop was also kept very busy on repairs to Government motor cars and lorries, also motor cars belonging to Government servants.

48. Owing to the water shortage which gave a very great deal of anxiety to this Department, a small filter bed was constructed with the aid of the Public Works Department, which is used for filtering water coming down from No. 1 Cutting.

49. A small pumping station was built and equipped with one steam pump and two electrical driven Semi Rotary pumps in connection with the well sunk near the Workshops.

50. The old well in the yard of the Motor Workshop was fitted with two hand pumps, and from 25,000 to 30,000 gallons of water per day were supplied to the public during the drought.
