2. Cost of Office --As the Survey Office forms part of the Public Works Department and is accommodated in the same building, the charges for numerous items such as lighting, heating, electric fans, etc., cannot be stated.

Omitting these items, the statement of costs is as follows:-

3. European Staff. Mr. F. Sutton, Assistant Superintendent of Surveys, proceeded on leave on the 29th March. Mr. E. B. Lambert, 1st Class Surveyor, remained seconded to the Crown Lands Office and part of the year acted as Resumption and Valuation Officer. Mr. F. W. Wood, 1st Class Surveyor, and Mr. C. H. Douglas, 2nd Class Surveyor, proceeded on leave on the 12th February and 19th March respectively.

4. Chinese Surveyors.-There were no additions to the staff during the year. Four Apprentice Surveyors were promoted to 3rd Class Surveyors.

5. Triangulation.-A new triangulation station was erected at Whitty Street and valued. The beacons erected in 1928/29 in Lan Tau area were valued. Observations were taken from same and the whole connected with the main triangulation of the Colony, i.e. Lan Tau Peak, Lan Tau East, East Brother, Chu Lu Kok, Tree Island, Tai O, South Soko Island, Nam Tim, Yee, and the rectangular Co-ordinates of each station were computed.

The following triangulation stations were inspected-Au Tau, Lam Ti, Mong Tsing, Sui Hang, Ha Tsia, She Kong, Shek Po, Fanling, Jordan Road, East Battery, Tidal Cove, and cairns rebuilt at Tai Mo Shan, Junk Island, Lantau East, Mount Parker, Mong Tsing, Castle Peak, and Sui Hang, and repairs carried out where necessary in other cases.
