The excavation of the pipe trace and stringing of the 24″ steel pipes were commenced in May on the section between Piper's Hill Reservoir and Shek Lei Pui, and pipe laying on this section was begun in August. By the end of the year 3,230 lineal feet of pipe line had been laid.

The construction of the bridges over the Lai Chi Kok and Shek Lei Pui streams was commenced in September and completed by the end of the year.

202. Dredging within the Harbour Limits and Formation of Reclamation at Kowloon City.-Investigations were instituted during the early part of the year with a view to carrying out a scheme of dredging at Kowloon Point, Belcher Ridge and Rambler Shoal, Penguin Shoals, and the Western Fairway.

A Contract was let to the Netherlands Harbour Works Co. on the 14th May for the dredging of Kowloon Point, Belcher Ridge, Rambler Shoal, and Penguin Shoals. The contract provides for the dredged material to be utilized in forming the reclamation South-East of Kowloon City, the construction of about 1,300 feet of sea walling, and other necessary contingent works. The contract is to be completed in fifteen months.

Dredging.-The Contractors commenced operations on the 4th of July and completed the dredging of Penguin Shoals to an average depth of -37.5′ O.D. on the 11th of August. The total quantity of material dredged from this area was 66,259 cubic yards, and it was found to consist of 69% sand, 16% mud, and 15% shell.

The dredging of Belcher Ridge and Rambler Shoal Area was completed to a depth of 36.5' O.D. on the 12th of October. The total quantity of material dredged from this area 198,822 cubic yards, and it was proved to consist of approximately 57% sand, 14% mud, and 29% shell.
